Got out on the water at 6 ish. Bait was a pain at first but shortly found some sardines and mackerel. Used the sabiki and caught roughly 6 and began trolling. 10-15 mins into trolling and something slams my bait. I reeled it up from the depths and it was a big yellowtail. Gaffed em and got em into the boat without a problem. Got blood all over my boat and put it in my game bag. Overall a fun day at LJ and my first ever yellowtail. 2190621907

I must admit I am jealous though. Still waiting for my first, but to do that I need more time on the water.
Well done!

Yeah I went to 5 star processing down near San Diego bay. Did it on the spot and had everything packaged and put away with a ton of ice. They cleaned my game bag up and put in fresh ice for free. Ice there is cheap at 3 dollars for 20lbs

Got her done professionally by 5 star processing. I really wanted to clean it myself cause I made the effort to catch it but my dad wasn't willing to put up with the mess. The only messy part was bleeding it when I first got it but oh well. I still am gonna enjoy it regardless of who cleaned it.

I saw you at the launch yesterday and last Monday. Good to see you putting time on the water. Congrats on your first one, you will remember it more than others to come and it will taste the best.

I try to get out often bc the more you go, the higher the odds are you will catch something. Even if you don't get anything it's still better than a day at home or the office.

Absolutely, I try to use it as a way to chill and forget about things that bother me from time to time. If you keep that attitude than it is always a positive experience even when you don't catch some fish. Also I think I learn something new almost every trip to LJ.

La Jolla shores is swell blocked by the rest of La Jolla. Windansea for instance saw every bit of that swell because its exposed. Long period means more water moving less frequently.

Good to know. I'm still unfamiliar with LJ, so I really have no idea...

make bait, 10-15mins, catch nice fish, dice said fish up like the fish monger and package well enough to be sold commercially... efficient work, nicely done:D

Indeed. Did some serious grubbing on Tuesday and tonight. Had fish tacos on taco Tuesday, and had pan seared yellowtail with garlic parmesan risotto.

I found maggots inside my kayak this morning, mixed in with the halibut slime from last week... does that count as extra mojo?
