Headed out to Silverwood Lake yesterday, 1/26/2018, for a shot at some striper. Fished from 7:00 to 14:00. Weather was beautiful, slight breeze with air temperatures ranging from 29 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit. I trolled Cleghorn Canyon, Miller Canyon, and the spillway. Caught one striper around three pounds on a rapala, did not see anything else caught. Lake was basically empty; only saw four boats on the water.

Congrats at least you didn't get skunked! Use to boat there all the time, never tried fishing it.

Nice! I like that place. I heard those stripers are tasty too...

First time fishing it. It was a nice break from ocean fishing and the city. Was absolutely stoked to catch just that one.

As badly as I wanted to keep it, I didn’t. OEHHA posted a “Do Not Eat” advisory for Silverwood stripers in 2013 because of mercury and PCBs. Didn’t want to chance it.

Bummer... Nice fish though.

Is that like the warning that is put on tuna, swordfish and others?

Similar, this warning is specific to the lake because of the noted high levels of mercury and PCBs found there. But basically the same issue.
