Got me wondering, has CA ever had a Hurricane/Cyclone? YEP!, but small compared to this beast pounding the Carolina's coast.
The 1858 San Diego hurricane was a very rare California (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California) hurricane. It is the only known tropical cyclone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_cyclone) to impact California as a hurricane, although other systems have impacted California as tropical storms. The storm caused damage to many homes and other constructions in San Diego (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego). San Pedro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Pedro,_California) experienced heavy rainfall, El Monte (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Monte,_California) experienced high winds that damaged its corn crops and trees, and Los Angeles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles) and Visalia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visalia,_California) experienced large amounts of rain but low wind. A later estimate stated that if a similar storm happened in 2004, it would have caused $500 million in damage.
