Launched at grey light, hard to find bait, headed outside with 2 macs. Water was glassy smooth, fog hung around the whole time. It was so smooth you could see fins cruising the surface everywhere you looked. Once I lost my macs I decided to do a troll with a new rapala like squid skirted china bait that I just bought online. It only took about 3 minutes and the reel was buzzing. Ended up landing a smaller Mako and bring him home to meet the family. Mako is pretty tasty, alot like marlin or swordfish.

That is awesome, Hopefully you eat all the meat and keep the jaws. I leave those monsters alone so they can keep our fishery healthy.

I saw something swimming around my bait tube and flipped a flatfall out. Bit it on the first cast. My first meal was mako tacos from the belly and collar meat. Fantastic! The rest I steaked and froze for later culinary tests.

For sure. Teeth removed and cured, meat processed and vacuum sealed, fins and cartilage being used for some voodoo asian stuff to fix my wifes knee. These guys are just passing through, there was a shitload of them out there today.

Still a bit green and bad visibility but the glassy surface helped find the action.
