Launched at first light at Malibu pier and worked my way north. Conditions were pretty mellow.

I started in around 10 to 15 ft of water and stayed around that depth most of the morning. Caught 7 legal sized fish on the dartspin in blue smoke on a weighted swimbait hook fished weedless. Great shallow water bait.

Chased around some birds crashing on bait in deeper water. A lot of bait out there but no bites. Just dolphins and birds.

It started to get lumpy so I called it around 10.
Another great summer morning.

I've only tried my Dartspins once, and it was for spotties. But, I bought them for boiler fishing. I'm glad to see a calico hanging from one. Thanks for the report.

Is it fairly easy to launch at Malibu pier?

Where do you do exactly...park on the street to the north of the pier and take your kayak down to the water from there?

Congrats on the tuna. Definitely great action. Visiting my folks in Florida soon. Can't wait to try it on the Snook and Reds.

I generally park on the street but you can also park in the lot.

When I lived in Santa Clarita I always wanted to fish Malibu & north never got around to it though.
I remember back in my surfing days the "Rocky beaches" which made me cautious about beach landings there.
BTW: Nice catch!
Make me eager to get my new 2020 Hobie (finally sold my 2013) from Andy (OEX Sunset Beach) and see what the inshore (Tomales Bay) has to offer up here.

You definitely have to watch out for the rocks landing on some of the beaches. I guess it's also part of why the shallow water bass fishing is good on that stretch of the coast. Good luck in Tomales Bay. Good Striper fishing I hear.
