sand wheels, where to buy

looking for big wheels for dragging kayak on sand. Any advice on brand, where to buy, and whether anyone has used wheels for sale. Thank you.

Did quite a bit of research on this myself.

Depends what yak you have, after that its what you want to deal with.

I shied away from the scupper models due to some anecdotes about cracking.

I went with the C-Tug with the sand wheels for my Outback, breaks down and stores easily for me. Only con is lifting the yak loaded up back on it after you land.

I have had and used a lot of different brands and type on different kayaks. Bottom line if you are going to go over soft sand there is only one that is worth spending that extra, Wheeleez balloon tire type. You can get plug in, rest on top off with or without side rails it depends on the hull shape, for best fit. I even had a Malone type with super wide hard wheels, they would just push more sand, which meant a lot harder pulling. There was no way to go fast enough to get them on top of the sand. Don't buy the Mini's unless you have a very small/light kayak. All others are a waste of money when it come to sand.

Almost a month later, how did the tires work out for you?

looks like im a little late to the thread, but if you decide to go away from the through-scupper cart, the c-tug with sand tracks has been phenominal for me.

The Home Depot wheels were similar to what I already have, I returned them. They are ok for packed sand, not for loose sand.

The C tug with Sandtrakz (as they are spelled) has been great for me over loose sand and you dont have to worry about flats because they are not inflated. they break down and store in the hull or in a crate etc. so you can take them with you on the water (useful if going from beach to beach by kayak).

Downside is that they are not through scupper so you have to use the strap (ncluded) to secure them to your kayak rather than just setting the kayak on top and relying on the penetration of the cart through scuppers to secure the kayak to the cart.
