Epic morning day after Thanksgiving November 29th 2019 kayak fishing off my Ocean Kayak Trident 13 out of Stillwater Cove in Monterey California. Cold 42°F outside temperature at the morning launch which is located on the Pebble Beach golf course. I met some fellow friendly kayakers who let me tag along with them. Started deep in 200 plus feet of water with a Joe's Jigs Purple Octopus Jig where I caught the Starry Eye, Vermillion and short Lingcod. Then I lost the Joe's Jigs to a bottom snag and switched to a large shimano flat fall glow in the dark and caught the mixed bag of blue, brown and copper rockfish. All fish caught on Penn lever drag and Shakespeare Ugly stick rod from Squidco Tackle shop in San Diego. We filleted the fish and made Brazilian fish stew with it. I am so blessed to live in a world where I get to experience amazing things like fishing Stillwater Cove. Shotout to Edub Outdoors as the first person to tell me about this special place.

ThatÂ’s a cool spot. Try in shallow to the right next time some high spots - big Lings. Got some crazy spots in Big Sur if you want to hit it up. Cool video!

Great report and video! Thanks. Variety and epic conditions. Makes me wonder; if I lived up there, would I fish open water alone? Sure would be tempting. The Tax Man is a bit more aggressive up that way.
Those octopus jigs are super cool. Also hard to find. You got a line on them?

Thanks for the compliments!
Matt, I saw a guy with a really nice ling in that area you describe and I definitely want to hit up some of your spots in Big Sur.
Amish Ed, yes the tax man got a spear fisherman in 2017 at this spot around the same time of year. A guy working at the beach and tennis club made sure to let me know about all the sharks out there as I was getting ready.
TCS, the only place I’ve been able to get the Joes Jigs Octopus jigs are at the Fred Hall show. They have all the different sizes and colors of the octopus heads and replacement skirts in different colors too. The purple head with a brown/orange skirt is a killer.
I’m in Hawaii now and got a chance to kayak fish with Captain Jon Jon Tabon from Discovery Channels Pacific Warriors and will post that report soon when I get back.
Thank you all :you_rock:

Wow, great video bro.
Definitely hit up Matt for the Big Sur experience, it is so awesome, we caught so many Jurassic fish up there.
I was rock fishing in La Jolla yesterday and was thinking all about the great times we had rock fishing the Jewel.
