I saw that and planning on going out, but Surf is high on Monday. So I'll provably go Tuesday but leaning towards Wednesday because it has the best surf and wind conditions. It's been a long long wait.

So La Jolla will be one of the beaches opening up? Or undetermined as of yet?

As I understand it, all county beaches will be available for transit to the water (surfers, paddleboarders, kayakers, swimmers). Actual access to the beach for non-transit purposes will be determined city by city.

it won't be no secret when it opens up. it will be a zoo. personally, I think it is premature. La Jolla is a city within San Diego county, right? just to be certain.

Yep - LJ should be open for transit. Parking will not be. Beach usage determined by City of San Diego, since La Jolla is not it's own city, as far as I know.

+2

No parking lots open and no sitting on beach. Only for access to the ocean. No shore fishing. Surf conditions and wind unfortunately are going to be on the high side for Monday, that is the only reason I will wait a couple days.

I just called the Lifeguard Service. According to the person I spoke with, Phil, the LJ Shores launch is now open for launching and retrieving human-powered kayaks. No powered vessels allowed, at least for the moment.

With all the pent up demand, I wonder if it will be difficult to maintain the required social distancing on the beach?

Now open as in today and tomorrow or from Monday on?

LJ launch will be like Costco. You have to line up for limited no. of people at the launch while coast guard guys are dis infecting the sand and you have to wear face mask too. That will be funny

Just to clarify - that article is stating May 1 - anyone else reading it as sooner?

The ocean access is the 27th. The "masks when within 6' of anyone not from your household" is May 1.

I don't think the rental companies should be there (not essential businesses?), nor should there be much activity on the resort beach to the South. So, you should be able to spread out and keep your social distancing as long as the tides are not too high.

get a little feedback from guys that do decide to hit it on monday / Tuesday that would be great. you don't have to reveal immediately if you caught fish on not. :D. good luck guys and be safe. I'll let things cool off before I. head down. wife won't be too pleased either being that the virus is still active.

from the cam, beach looks dead? & is that the bumper of a pd cruiser on the far right? That's where access to the launch is..

Still not sure if they will allow us on the sand for unloading and loading, but that's a minor thing compared to finally being able to get on the water. I'm hitting it Wednesday but Ill be looking at the web cams Monday and Tuesday to see how it goes. Good luck to all going out and stay safe.

Glad we can fish, but bad timing with red tide. The water is brown with very few patches of clean water. My fiance lives above the cove and I’ve been watching it the past three days. Still good for rockfish but no sign of any bird life or bait. The waves rolling in at the beach are a reddish chocolate brown

So is this how your kayak gets its “red wings”? afaf

I don't have a way to transport my kayak right now so shore bound right now.

Anyone know if anything is open to surf fishing right now?

I'm coming from Murrieta so Oceanside is the closest to me but I'm more than willing to drive if I can wet a line someplace else.

This morning I was looking at the La Jolla Shores Hotel's web cam and it was so good to see people on the beach jogging and guys wheeling their kayaks down to the water. The bast part was seeing that we can drive the truck onto the sand to unload there if we want. That makes it a lot easier for me. SO good to be able to get back on the water. I'll be there Wednesday first light.
