Hi please help identify this fish thank you. Baby Halibut? No teeth at all. Caught while fishing for rockfish about 2 miles from Long Beach break wall.

No Teeth on Sand Dabs
A rounded tail on the Dabs
A straight lateral line on the Sole/Sand Dabs...the Halibut has that hook or bend in the upper part of the line...

The list of left-eyed flounders is pretty short. The only one not on this page of my book is fantail sole. The big mouth, symmetric body spots, body shape, and size all point to bigmouth.

You did the best thing by releasing it.
When in doubt of positive ID, the fish should be released.
It does very much look like a sand dab.
