Well headed out into big blue around 5:00 am, knowing I only had about 3 hours to fish, saw Ratdog and Jasmin on the beach and launched into whomping 1-2" surf and a very toasty 65-66 degree water! Headed to the pier and made bait in 2 drops, candybar greenbacks, and some dines!!! Spent the next couple of hours out by the pier looking for some flatness...only to get denied! Got a few tail slaps from a pup of a mini t, who was quickly sent on his way back home!! Hope someone else had some better fortune!!

Looked for ya Matt, no vhf. Launch was ankle slapping good times. Bait all over the place. Spent most of the day outside looking for yellow. Saw one fish come up about 20 feet off my left side chomping on the heels of a mack across the surface. Got an iron on it immediately but gone.

Later on I saw a silvery fish about 2ft long launching itself out of the water repeatedly. Couldn't figure it out. I've never seen a yellowtail jump like that, it was like how carp flop themselves out of the water. Not sure what else it could've been.

Fog rolled in quick around 10am, bringing a strong change in wind direction and swell direction. Without gps or a compass you could've got into trouble.

Mola's. They were jumping out of the water this morning. One came within 20ft of the yak. I tried to take a pic, but the shutter delay on the camera sucks.

That was my first thought, I must've just had a weird angle on it. The fish sure didn't look mola shaped from where I saw it. It jumped 4 or 5 times and I was within 30 yards of it, could've sworn it was more "regular fish" shaped.

I saw the same thing and was thinking cuda? Or jr. Seabass? Don't know for sure but it had me casting irons hoping to find out!

Sorry I missed you out there Brian!

Definitely Mola's. Looked to be about 15-20lbs. At first it looked like tuna;).. When I turned to get a better look I could see the flatness.

Last year when the one's first showed during the fires I never got the "better look." Definitely spent an hour + casting on everyone I saw jump or boil out of the corner of my eye. That sucked when I found out they were Molas.
