So, after having owned my PA12 for 3 years now, I finally had something break on me. Right after getting into the harbor (thank god) i was turning my handles and I heard a pop. No control, only making right hand circles. My question is this, how hard is it to access and fix the line? Am I better off taking it to the shop or doing it on my own?

Try fixing it on your own first. If that doesn't work, then take it to the shop.

If you search on utube, I'm sure there are videos posted showing how to do it step by step.

Also try to determine the cause, if it's a cracked grommet guide that could be fraying the line or something else, that should be addressed as part of the repair.

Maybe this diagram will help you understand the routing of the steering lines...
Here’s a tip...I use my phone if I can’t fit my fat head in there to see it...

I did the same. I tried on my own but realised that if one popped I was likely to have another pop while on the water. I can't imagine I paid more than $75.

It’s 40 a line to have Fastlane repair it. My pa 12 has popped 3 lines since I bought it in 18’. Also just upgraded the rudder looking forward to seeing how it works! Rudder was 35bucks.
