Bout a week late sorry guys. Last Friday I headed out to NP with Mike (StrikerMC). On the water around 5:45, made our way south to the kelp beds. Birds busting everywhere, dropped on every school we could, no pelagic species to be had. Dropped down through one of the bait balls down on the bottom looking for a halibut and pulled up my PB sand bass (fortunately I picked up 20#s of ice on the way to the beach so I was able to preserve the fish pretty well). Weighed it in at 5lbs when I got back to the beach a few hours later. Got a few rockfish as well. It was a nice day on the water over all.

do you eat the local bass? All I ever see is catch and release but I like eating fish.

Sandies and Calicos sometimes. As a general rule of thumb I do not keep Spotties.

I ate one spotty and wasn't impressed but I haven't tried the calico or sand bass yet. Still looking for my first legal halibut. This summer I hope. My wife's new kayak is supposed to get here this week so with any luck next week I'll get on the salt.

inshore calico is one of the tastier fishes -- can't vouch for harbor models

Spotties taste like dirt.

Calico Bass>Sand Bass>Spotty ..........
I don't like to eat Spotty ....kinda chewy

I was there last Friday too ....tried to catch halibut but only shot one and overall very slow in harbor

Caught a big Sandie 2 weeks ago and had a BBQ. First time eating one. I always released any I have caught in the past. Tasted very good, mild taste and good texture.

I thought the Spotty was like chewing on rubber bands
