We had a pretty good day last Saturday off the Corona Del Mar Kelp beds. We launched inside of Newport harbor and headed south. The Sheepshead were biting on shrimp and everything else came on squid. It was an interesting mixed bag and the keeper size Sheepshead came a later on in the day.

Interesting, never bothered to try shrimp for sheephead, Squid has always been the go-to bait for me. Congrats on your catches!

Thanks John. I was fishing with both squid and shrimp, and they definitely have a preference for the shrimp. We been out many times using both and the squid usually catches everything else lol

Hey nice vid. I was thinking of going out there tomorrow... any tips on where to go once I pad the mouth of the harbor?

The kelp beds are about 1.5-2 miles north of the harbor, but you can also go rock hopping right out of the harbor heading south.
