Hi all~

I just wanted to see what you seasoned yak fishing vets would recommend as a good, semi-bulletproof GPS fishfinder unit to buy. I have had a lowrance 5HDI and hook2 5xHDI, neither had GPS. I gotta say that I wasn’t too impressed with either unit. I’d like a nice one that won’t mind getting a little wet and not too pricey. And preferably will fit the stock transducer hole/cover for my ‘16 PA14. I’d like to start hitting LJ a little more regularly. Thanks! 🤙🏽

I have been using the Garmin striker 4 plus on my outback.
Has gps but no charts. I have been able to find my waypoints so that’s a plus.
So far after twos years of almost every weekend it’s still works like the day it was installed.
I bought my at bass pro shop for around 139 plus tax.
If you need the charts look at the low end echomap.
That’s my penny’s worth

+1 on the Garmin.

If you get the clear view model the transducer is much longer so you may have to get creative with the install depending on the year of your yak.

Thank you. I was leaning toward Garmin but I’m unsure about the transducer fitting in the lowrance ready spot for it without fussing with a different plate.

Mine was pretty straightforward. I basically drilled through some of the plastic on the inside of the plate and ran zip ties through. On the bigger transducer, you have to cut out the pegs for the lowrance mount... it definitely fits, but just barely.

That said, I remember there’s a guy in the buy sell section who actually makes 3-D printed plates for just this problem. Had I not gone ahead and mutilated mine, I would’ve bought from him.

+1 on Garmin as well. Can’t find anything to complain about

I bought one from him and it is awesome, $20 well spent! Here they are if you're interested
