What the heck are these alien looking egg sacks...?
These 4 tubes with a sort of egg like sphere in each one were floating about as I was Rockfishing yesterday...can anyone identify them ?
They were about a foot long and almost seemed to be kind of swimming along...

Second that opinion. Google Salp images, I couldn't get it to paste into this reply.

Usually they are more than two, they can form long chains and vary in size from grapes to the size of you palm.

I've been seeing salps, moon jellyfish and purple-striped jellyfish recently at La Jolla.

Hopefully a sign of a flourishing ecosystem!

A salp (plural salps) or salpa (plural salpae or salpas[1]) is a barrel-shaped, planktic tunicate. It moves by contracting, thereby pumping water through its gelatinous body, one of the most efficient examples of jet propulsion in the animal kingdom.[2] The salp strains the pumped water through its internal feeding filters, feeding on phytoplankton.

Salps reportedly can quickly generate massive populations that consume microscopic marine plants called diatoms. In some years, salp swarms may replace krill, which also eat diatoms. But while krill provide a rich, critical
food source, salps provide little nutrition.

Scientists speculate that global warming may favor salps over krill.

I wonder if the salps killed the penguins at La Jolla?

I haven’t seen one there, for at least 15 years
