This is a Kayak Fishing Report from La Jolla on 8/24.
Launched early from the shores to moonlight. Awesome conditions through the day with mild breeze and calm seas. Water was 70-degrees and rose to 73 by mid-morning. Almost no waves upon launch or landing.
I initially made my way to the squid grounds for two or three quick drifts and gave up after catching none. I think we caught them all last week. Next, I headed straight out to about 190-feet where I found bait balls and could see occasional boils happening in the distance. Glad I put the heavier sabiki on as four mega-macks at once are almost impossible to reel up.
Trolling the macks yielded nothing and I could not reach most of the boils before they would disappear. The North to South current was ripping in this area too. At 9AM +/- I got lucky and a boil erupted about 15-yards in front of me. I tossed an iron into the mix that immediately connected upon splash-down.
I love that tail!

A bit blurry but here is the blue moon lit trek though the reserve.

Fish were taken for food in the production of this report!
