Nice looking stringer. Went out myself the same day, only thing I caught was a cold and a case of head fog. Got turned around a few times out there, thank god I decided to bring the fish finder that day.

Thank you, Alex. Glad you got back ok. The fog can get pretty dense in the area. Allows good idea to drop a pin of the harbor so you can find your way back in.

Thank you, Mark! I have been doing some exploring of the area and the Solo Skiff makes it so much easier to do so.

Not just the size, but the nice variety. Redondo back in the 70's and 80's was 1/2day boat limits of Bocaccio with an occasional Chillipeper. Reds, Barborpoles, and Chuckle heads were primarily offshore island catches.

Thanks again John. Bocaccio are still pretty common in a few areas I've located. Sunsets are common but anything over 2lbs are pretty hard to find. Same with Chuckleheads and Barborpoles. I think I fish too deep for Vermillion but I am sure they are around. I did found a spot that holds the Mexican rockfish, but the one I brought up are about 12" or smaller. There are still a lot of grounds I need to explore.

What depth of water was that in ?

I usually fish between 250ft to 600ft(rarely) but those pictured were caught between 300ft and 425ft.

Ohh ok good to know. I tried that area for the first time and I stayed in at about 300feet of water. But correct me if I am wrong, from what I understand we are not allowed to fish for rockfish deeper than 450 feet of water. It used to be even shallower but they just recently changed the law. Is that true ?

New regulation allows us to fish up to 100 fathoms (600ft) in the Southern Management Area. Groundfish regulations for 2021 (https://cdfgnews.wordpress.com/2020/12/29/new-recreational-groundfish-regulations-for-2021/)

Also, remember that the bag limit for Vermillion has been decrease to 5 from 10. That's Vermillion and Sunset. Although you can tell them apart, they still need to do genetic testing to distinguish them. Until then, Sunsets are considered to be Vermillion and the daily bag limit is 5. Rockfish bag limit is still 10 but only 5 of the 10 can be Vermillions/Sunsets. Please correct me if I am wrong.
