A few weeks ago me and a few friends picked up some live sardines to target halibut off Doheny beach, Dana Point, CA.
We caught a few but have a look at what else was running up and down the beach! And there were lots of them! I only had bass gear. Could I catch any and actually land them and safely set them on my kayak? Have a look!

Wow Glen, Pulling on all those sharks looked like fun, too bad they weren't halibuts. The kayak scoop seems like a lot of bait for one Livewell, good you were able to share it. Nice to see you catch a keeper halibut.:reel:

No problem do it all the time. 12 lb line with 4 lb leader. Ultra lite trout rod and reel.

Thanks John, we we’re hoping to be loading up on some halibut, but those leopard Shark seem to be all over the beach. What I found out using the bait tank is that if the sardines are “cured” two of those scoops will stay alive all day. Anchovies on the other hand don’t do so well no matter how many.

I bet catching a 5’ leopard shark on your setup would be something to see!

Indeed, I do use light line when fishing for them, lots of fun. 20# braid and 25# flouro, loose a lot of them to their teeth and the rocks, takes a little skill.

I been pretty lucky lately using 40# braid with 20# fluro. just setting the drag taunt but far from being buttoned down.
