I would like to buy a rod and keep it rigged for tossing the iron when needed from the kayak. Don't want to go any longer than 8' and wondering what type, size has worked well for others. Am I right in thinking a 'glass rod would work best due to the need for a bit more flexible tip to throw farther from the sitting position?
Thanks,
Steve

The Calstar listed here would work just fine...

Have one of those already but feel like the Graphiter is a bit too stiff in the tip section.

Calstar 6480L. It is perfect for small and light iron. The rod is a thinner wall than the standard 6480 and is very light if it is built right. Only down side is even though it's rated 20-40 it just doesn't hve the back-bone to fish any thing above 25 line.

i find it better for a kinda stiff tip less chance of back lash that way i got the 6480 seeker black steel gotta go 8ft' if u really wana sling it at boils or roaming seals on your troll lines
Talk to Ryan at Seaforth landing, he does custom rods and turn around is pretty quick.

I got a Calstar 690J and had them cut it down to 8' before they shipped the blank. Wrapped it myself and love the action. Not really an option unless you wrap your own, I suppose. (I cut it down because 9' is just more than I can cast while sitting on my butt.)

Thanks everyone.....I ended up buying a Shimano TMC-80H of the rack today. We will see how it does. Only so much you can read about here until you just got to buy something and give it a shot. Really like my other Teramar's so hopefully I can post a pic of it "in action" soon.

LOOK YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT BUT I HAVE A 7' DIAWA SALTIGA THAT I GOT ON SALE FOR 99$ AND I THINK IT'S THE BEST ROD I HAVE EVER OWNED WHEN IT COMES TO CASTING. WITH MY AVET MXJ I CAN THROW A TRUE IRON ABOUT 75 YARDS NO PROBLEM. IF ANY OF YOU EVER SEE ONE IN A STORE CHECK IT OUT IT'S INSANE.
