Interesting day around the pier area, very calm,no current, lots of bait, sardines -greenbacks-spanish. Threw the surface and heavy iron into bait, nothing happening. Flylined a mac in about 25ft. and hook-up a baby thresher (40-50#). Practiced some rusty skills on this fish and released him within ten minutes, two inches from the hook(corner mouth hookset). Was surprised about thresher this time of year? What beautiful fish they are........

I also heard about a couple of Threshers being caught off the Condo area the other day. The "three week window" of relatively good Thresher fishing continues, through October in La Jolla, again .

What was the water temp? I heard on the weather report last night that the water or inshore San Diego is a lot warmer than the water off the rest of the So Cal coast right now.

AM tide tomorrow wourld indicate a good halibut bite (but-bite?) with a long, slow tide. The afternoon tide would be better for other species, if anything is around.

Thanks for the report.

Nice job getting out there dodo, you couldn't ask for a nicer day, did you see that fog bank roll in? It was pretty cool to see how fast things can get blanketed out.

Looks like threshers may be on the no take list next year, there has been some serious discussion on closing the recreational fishery. Threshers are actually caught here all year long. Every year in september NOAA fisheries runs their socal thresher shark survey... because... there is Very little known about the thresher shark population status.

In recent years threshers have come under a lot of pressure. They are easy to catch and are very beautiful animals. With continued research maybe one day we will know more about them...

Weird!!! People actually are still fishing at La Jewel?!?! Whodathunkit.
Thanks for the report D50, it is getting a little boring reading about some hot i-phones and cheap viagra. I still am missing B.A. Barracus as a notch in my kayak species bedpost, but i suck at shark fishing. I did get clearance from the wife and made room in my work schedule to head out in 2 weekends. GAME ON BEEYATCHES!!!!:cheers1:
