Launched right as Andy pulled up this morning. Had a pair of dolphins scare the bejesus out of me when they surfaced 15 ft off my starboard. Made 8 or so squid as the sun came up. Drifted across last week's hotspot, ran into Arne. Donated a squid and remarked that we were almost on my GPS spot called BSB1.

Chatted a bit when my rod takes a zing. Loads up and a quick swing and I'm hooked up. Turns me around and off I go. Strong run, quite fast has me thinking big yellow. Aimed rigth at the kelp and buoys, I try to slwo the beast down. Fully buttoned down and short stroking for all I'm worth but I can't stop it. Fortunately, we zig zag between buoys. After a good 20 minutes of arm burning struggle, I finally start getting it up. Damn, big black. Probably over 100, largest I've seen. Got some pics and just managed to get the hook in my pliers when it wakes back up and almost pulls me off the yak. Hook comes free and with one big splash of the tail he took off. Paddled back to the zone but nothing much happened for me after that. Had to be in the lab at 10:00 so at 9:00 I thru in the towel and jetted in. On the beach Dan said he'd heard someone was hooked up, not sure who (though if I had to guess I'd say pornstar). Beautiful morning, light to no wind and some decent current early. Taking tomorrow off for a full day of fun in the sun. Pics to follow.

There was one 30ish tail caught this morning, and not by Arne :D

Brad, I was paddling over to you to see if ya wanted a pic and witnessed the fluke of the baby whale :D

That's what I get for fishing on a Monday. Thanks for the squid Brad - got picked up at BSB1 and quickly broke off - I think it was a BSB that found a rock.

Man, if those things ever come off the endangered list I know the first spot to which I am paddling! BSB1 is where I got those back to back ones on Thanksgiving and Chris's big hook up Sat was in the same general area. Not sure why they like it there, no obvious structure on the FF, but it seems to be a favorite spot. Unfortunately YT2 and YTridge were quiet today, but Sqd1 was hoppin (or squirting, as the case may be). I think I am getting better at the squid, only got hosed once today. :D

Yeah, that fish had me going, for like one second, then the long steady pulls... After about 30 mins, I knew it was a black. Luckily, it snapped off before color, or before I had to deal with reviving it. I heard that sea lions are a problem, the BSB seem to steal a lot of vauable bait. I think we should direct our misguided angst at the BSB population! Who's with me? :P (this is a joke, seriously no protest letters)

This sounds like something that Froman charactor would say :D

Yeah, froman pisses me off. Always whining.

Here's the pics of the beast. I tried to put my foot in the first pic to give some sense of scale. Not sure it worked, but this guy was BIG.

How big does a BSB have to be before it will take a sea lion on the dropper loop.

Nice BSB. Brad. I was thinking about how the sunrise must have looked from a kayak in La Jolla this morning instead of the 5 south on my way to work. It even looked good all the way up here near camp pen. A day on the water is always a good one. :)
