Finally found some time to fish. So I put the
kayak in the pickup and decided to try somewhere
new. The tide was dropping a whole half of foot, the
current was wrapping around a point I found; the wind
kept swinging widely from side shore, off shore, opposite
side shore; the swells kept popping up everywhere--only
1-3'--but predicted to be 25' on the Northshore by Sunday;
and the water temp sat a solid 78F.

I trolled around hoping to find a Trevally, but only nailed a tasty
Humuhumu Eleele. Love the meat on Tiggers. Plus a Aha Needlefish.

This is Oahu's west side. I'm here to figure out if
I can make a living here in my old field of engineering.

I'll tell you what... They got some fish
over here. The shallows have a variety of reef fish, including
big Trevallys that hunt in groups. Just beyond the reefs is
the deep blue sea with more year round game fish.
A couple of days ago I saw an 80lb Sailfish a Hawaiian nailed
on his yak.

I'm moving here very soon.

Yani, I can't wait for the first real fish report from the islands. Then to fast-forward a year from now when you have the three Tuna tubes in the back that replace the old bait-tank, in search of Ahi :D. If I wasn't so scared of the Tiger Sharks I would start packing tonight! Please keep us lowly SoCal anglers in the loop, and we will keep you updated on the fall and spring Halibut runs. Perhaps that electronic shark deterrent would make a nice stocking stuffer, but don't say I told you so :) .

:reeling:Holy crap...15' with stripes    release...release...release ;).

Yani. I just moved back from Oahu after almost 4 years. Having three kids and seeing that 1/2 gal of milk was $6.25 over there, that will give you a good indication about the cost of living. Personally, I did NOT want to move back for a million reasons. But sometimes money unfortunately outweighs all of them... at least when there is family involved. BUT if your job produces and you can afford it, it can be the best place on earth. Great people, land, water, food and fishing/surfing/diving. You'll be stoked.

It's a different style of 'yak fishing over there... lots of artificials and dead bait fishing. But if you do it right... ahi, mahi, ono, ulua, uku, etc are on the menu. If you do go, I will set you up with some of the local legends. Main thing (like anywhere in the world) is respect the locals. And I am serious about that because there can be *repercussions* if you know what I mean. Do it right and you'll have friends for life! Here are a few photos to wet your whistle (oh yeah, I fished with a shark shield... I ran into sharks ever 3-4 sessions... you'll see 'em... guaranteed).

That's right, Adam you were there. Looks like a lot of fun.

Yo Yani,,,

Did someone say sharks? :vroam:

Better be careful. If all those spotties you cooked can somehow communicate to those sharks... They'd be looking for you. :D

Sharks?
I already have a Shark Repellant Device. It's
a full size poster picture of Adi's Head. It's
attached to a long stick. When a shark shows
up, I mere stick Adi's Big Head in the water and
off goes the Shark(s)!! It really works!

Trout,
I'm so stoked about Hawaii. Thank you for offering your
help. Man, am I gonna need it. I'm like a kid in a candy
store, I can't wait to find a tackle shop, new friends to
fish with, new places to fish and new fish to catch/eat!
Although, I'd like to wait, a while, for that first shark encounter.:leaving:
I'll pm you. Thanks.
