The South Bay Kayak Tournament will benefit the Chula Vista Nature Center and to is also being held to increase everyone's awareness the South Bay is being considered for closure to fishing by the DFG.
The Tournament is scheduled for February 28, 2009 from 6:00am to 2:30pm. The tournament will be held entirely in South Bay, launching from Chula Vista launch ramp at the J Street Marina. Cost is $50.00 Prior to January 30, $60 after that . This include t-shirt and hamburgers and soda after the tournament. Raffle prizes will also be given away.
Minimum payout of $500.00 for first place with a maximum of $1,500.00 depending on level of participation. There will be four major divisions as follows.
1. Best weight of three Bass (Spotted, Sand, Calico)
2. Best weight of Mixed Bag (corvina, halibut, white seabass and croaker) Separate fee of $10 required.
3. Best weight of three caught on fly rod (can only carry fly rods on your kayak) Fly fisherman automatically qualify for #1 above. IN other words they can win both divisions.
4. Junior Division under 18 best weight of three
A free fishing the South Bay seminar will be held at 6:30 pm on Feb 18th at the Chula Vista Yacht Club.
