hey i was just wondering if one of u kayak fishing experts(:you_rock:) could write an article in the Information Gallery about the best tecniques about how to fish for yellowtails that way us noobs(:o) could get better. thx

I don't know about writing an article but I can tell you one way noobs get better at fishing. They go fishing. Kayaks are not too different from any other boat. Many of the techniques that work on a yacht or sports boat will work on a kayak. Read, watch, and listen. This is how I have caught most of my LJ YT.
1. Launch at the shores launch area around first light.
2. Paddle past the reserve markers.
3. Use a sebiki to catch live mackerel.
4. Place mackeral in bait tank.
5. Paddle west, generally out side the kelp line a few hundred yards.
6. Use 25lb line and 2/0 to 4/0 hook of your choice.
7 Hook live mackeral through the nose.
8. Drop mackerak back 50-100 feet behind your kayak.
9. Set reel's clicker on.
10. Paddle slowly around the area until fish bites.
11. Fight fish, hopefully YT.
12. Repeat

I had not previously read any of "Bluewater Jon's" articles but am very happy to have been introduced. Jon is not only an excellent writer, he speaks the truth. If I had read his article about fishing with the Darkhorse last year about this time, I would have probably caught a lot more fish during my rookie season as a yakfisher.

This season, I am, hopefully, more informed and better prepared. Thank you Jon, Josh and everyone else who has helped me start to figure this thing out.

Taggermike's post is a good recipe for catching a yellowtail, especially in the summer.

Don't overlook the safety gear you will need to fish La Jolla, its is something to be respected.

I would suggest just going down to any place that sells kayaks (Allens Kayaks, Fastlane Sailing Center, Hike Bike and Kayak, any OEX location) or West Marine and pick up a free copy. Much like the fishing websites, a free kayak fishing magazine will drastically improve the flavor of your fresh brewed coffee in the morning :D.

Given they own this forum, help sponsor pretty much all local kayak fishing tournaments and events, brought us the LJ webcam, I'd say go to any OEX location first. They deserve that, plus they are the best.

Than you can go to any of the other 3 places Josh identified before OEX... :) Understandably, as he is affiliated with them.
