As we head into the season, I would like to be better prepared than I was last year. I know that the best teacher is just doing it but I could use some help with the techniques. I would like to ask those who have had success to share some of their tips with those of us who are still in the dark.

This thread will be on plastics. Next we will move on to other methods such as live bait, gulp, surface iron, etc. I know that the techniques will vary based on the location and the target fish so be as specific as you can.

There are many, maybe hundreds of people who follow this forum who are hungry for knowledge. If you have some, please share.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bob

Ya brutha theres different colors, size, weight, action, etc... You never know what youll get fishin the kelps though. I was fishin for calicos in the kelp and picked up that yellow in my avatar. You never know. Plastics are great in the bay too.

I like to bounce around to differnt holes in the kelp burning fishtraps across the surface. No secret there you will catch fish! mostly calis but you never no whats lurking down there.

there is an endless amount of ways to fish plastics. Not to mention a seemingly endless amount of plastics styles.

Plastic Navy has some good info on a few techniques.

When you fish the kelp with swimbaits, do you use weedless leadheads? Or is using heavy line to rip any snags free better?

I dont use weedless hooks. some people might. i just use 15 or 20lb test the only time i really snag is if my bait lands on top of the kelp.
