As far as rods go it depends on the time of year. When the squid are in you only need one rod (iron/squid on dropper loop). I bring two out in this case, one set up for the dropper loop and the other with a squid catcher on already. I either subsitute that for a deep iron or another dropper loop setup later on.

I know a few guys who only go out with irons as well. That isn't my area where I have any experience so I'll let them go into detail on that.

Other than that I bring one rod with a sabiki and one with a surface iron and one setup for flyline or with an sliding egg sinker setup if I'm targeting WSB.

The beer minimum is 4.

I usually bring 4 rod/reels because I have them set up for different rigs and I like back-up, if one craps out I've got another.

I use this checklist, I can't remember for shit early in the morning.

Game Clip
Bait tube
Rods/Reels

Flashlights/Headlamps

That is about what I take and it seams that my kayak gets very heavy
maybe too many beers. I just though I was taking too much stuff.:wsb:
