Fishfinder Power

I just got a Eagle Cuda 300 fishfinder. If this is the only thing I am going to power, do I need a 12v motorcycle type battery or will a rechargeable harness of AA's work?

It will last multiple trips and only weighs about 7lbs

Ran my 242 and 245 (separately of course) off 8 - AAs
1 battery = 1 oz
holder = 0.6 oz

Total weight 8.6oz or slightly over a half a pound.
I've ran em over 8 hrs on a single charge

8 packs works fine (@ radio shack) also tie in a 9v connector since thats whats on the pack

10 packs are better but a little bit more difficult to find

Make sure you get high quality batteries
Probably NiMH rated for 2500 mAh

The voltage required is not strictly 12V, it is 9-19V
For the 1st hour I'm up @ 11V then levels off @ 10.8
Rechargeable AA are "rated" (key word) for 1.2, but quality ones normally
do more but just aren't guaranteed to do so.

That give you at least 9.6

I agree with CJ, I use one of those and dont have to worry about it until the 6th trip or so. And for 20 buckaroos its close to what all those AA's, container, and wp plug will run you. Have fun with the new FF!:reeling:

If you had no use for AAs and were starting from scratch, the 12v brick would probably be the way to go. (if you don't mind the additional weight, although in the whole scheme of things its really not that much) .

Already having lots of AAs for various gadgets and stuff and a charger my additional out put was $4 plus a wife's old tuperware.
$2 for the 8 pack holder
$2 for a pack of 5 - 9v connectors

I actually bought a 12v battery from OEX, and a charger too, but I still prefer the AA solution, I guess its all a matter of personal preference.
