I am posting this info and request from the BD site and ask that you read and respond...
Now, we need to keep up the letters and get em in the mail. Not only will you be helping us try to save a few areas along the coast, you will also be helping the US post office make a few coins.
This is Southern California, the heartbeat of Sportfishing, and we need to keep going with this battle and show those in Sac town we are for real and we will be heard.
Now, its great that we have fishing clubs and folks like UASC and others like them, but what about those of us who are not members? The 1000s who just fish and relax with our famlies, we are the ones that need to keep pushing, we are the ones that need to be heard, we have a voice in this fight also.
Please, keep sending letters and please keep up to date on these matters..
Here are some addresses for your letters. Take 30 minutes and write one and send them out. It's a small amount of time needed to keep SoCal open. Just copy and paste them onto envelopes.
At least send a letter to each of them. You just need to write one letter and send it out to all of them. You should tell them;
1. What the sport means to you and your lifestyle
2. How the science meant to back-up the MLPA process was recently acknowledged to be insufficient and weak by the Science Advisory Team at a meeting held in Los Angeles on April 1st
3. The economic impacts associated with closures in specific areas
4. How those closures would force all recreational fishermen into even tighter and smaller areas, adversely impacting those areas
5. How current fishery management (seasons, limits, size restrictions) already work
6. How you have a vested interest in the oceans because of your lifestyle and that the closing off of productive areas of near shore fishing will do nothing but ruin a lifestyle you have partaken in most of your life.
