I really like my kayatank, but I found a minor problem with it when I was cleaning up my garage. When I was moving my kayak, my finger rubbed against the metal mesh filter and it cut my finger. I'm glad it was only my finger because it would have been bad if it cut my face or body. I could see this happening when I'm loading the kayak on top of my car. I decided to remove the metal filter and I'm thinking about an alternative solution. Does anybody else have experience with this? I'm thinking about using the tank without the filter.

My recommendation is to remove the metal filter as soon as you can.

Here is the picture of the metal filter:

BAD IDEA, your intake will clog, so that is kind of no bueno. I have been cut by mine when I used it, and my solution was to coat the outside with a bit of marine goop and the problem was solved!!

Or just mind the sharp edges... I remember mine being sharp but it wasn't too big of a deal to avoid.

Buki, check this thread...reply #13, I don't have a nice kayatank like you but the filter dilema could be applicable to your issue.

I'm surprised the goop worked for you. I thought it would rub off when it rubs against the ground or the kayak rack. It seems like a temporary fix.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks Grego. That's an excellent fix.

We now use a molded pump Filter. They run about 10 bucks but are 100% worth it.
