My friend and I fished La Jolla this Saturday. I had heard about a large surf warning on the news and expected a little larger surf at the launch. I knew the point would protect it, but I thought there might be something a little bigger than normal.... nope

We paddles north to the pier to make bait, it turned out to not really be worth it. We made about 8 greenbacks between the two of us. After that we trolled farther north. I saw a PB hooked up and fighting something for the half hour I was around. Never did get to see what it was. After about an hour of trolling the area north of the pier we turned around. About 30 minutes I saw a big bait ball on my fish finder, at that time I stopped to drop down my sabiki and let my deep trolled Mac catch up. Thats when my friends clicker goes off. He got all excited, it turned out to be just a chunky Calico.

After that we caught a few seals and had some raked baits. I got one Mac back that had half of its hind skin missing and was kinda crushed and bleeding.
While heading South over the canyon we ran into a pod of about 50 porpoise who put on quite the performance.

After my friend left I went to fish the kelp. I caught several Barracuda and a tiny Bonita.
Then I got a bit of a surprise. I caught my first White Sea Bass that wasn't super tiny. He was around 24 in? I didn't take an exact measurement. He was released quickly and swam away to fight another day.

I landed around 4 pm to a zoo. There was a bunch of morons swimming in the launch zone, whom I almost hit. (Three people including myself told them not to be there and that there was a zone designated for swimming. They ignored us.)
When I left a saw a lifeguard with his sirens on, an ambulance and a fire truck all heading for the launch. Did anyone hear of something happening?

Water was dark blue around the Canyon, around 73 degrees, and I metered a lot of bait around the kelp, but not much anywhere else.
