I caught two halibut, one sardine, one smelt, a few sanddabs, lizardfish,
a sole, and saw a flying fish fly by my eye. Flatties went 10 and 7 lbs,
but only landed in Third place.
These were beat out by the 14 lb winner (Kiyo again!) and a 10.5 lb fish.
One was on a sardine and the other was trolling a hoochie rig.

Those are still some pretty respectable Halibut, even if they didn't break the scale.
How do you set up a "hoochie rig"?, is that top secret, or something you'd be willing to share? It sounds like a great thing to have when catching bait proves to be a challenge.
BTW, it was nice meeting you at the party; I was wearing the blue Pelagic shirt and green G Loomis hat.

Nice looking Hali's! Well done.
Fishinkid, this is one option:
Use a little less weight on the 'yak. I usually use between a half pound and a pound, sometimes less.
Just raise and lower your rod on the drift and let it thump on the sea floor. The Hali's love 'em.
No matter the size they still look pretty damn tasty to me! Great job Larry!

What is your prefered color for the hoochie? I'm attempting to set up a bounce ball rig for the next time I head out.
white/pearl is the best color. Chartruese is good too.

Just be sure you're thumpin' that thing on sand.
With all of the various parts of a bounceball rig, you can imagine what will happen if you get over some grass or kelp and try to thump it.
That having been said, also plan for a snag with that really heavy weight, and make the line from swivel to weight light enough that you can break it off in a bind, so as not to lose the $20 worth of other tackle, by losing just the weight.
Maybe bring a couple of extra weights with that in mind.
Tight lines,
Willy
