I was making bait and hooked something nice that was pulling drag on my freshwater/spinning rod. I thought it was a fat mack so I hooked him on and trolled it. After a long tow I pulled him in and realized it was a bonito. Apparently I can't see well in the morning. So are bonito good for bait (besides bug bait)?

Bonito are great bait.

if you get one that is around 1-2lbs those are the best bait for threshers!

they are fragile though and die quickly in the tank.

About 6 years ago my pops and I were fishing for threshers off of Cardiff using live bonita for bait. A 15lb. yellowtail ate ( or should I say attempted to eat) a 15 incher... couldn't believe it! Hungry little bugger!

When i was in Cancun
the charter I hired used bonito for bait
After we looked for marlin all morning
the captain gave up
then cut up the bonito
drop chunks to the bottom and it was wfo on a variety of fishies
