Hobie flush mounts

Are Hobie owners happy with the factory molded in flush mounts? I found them to be a little on the shallow side. Cut em out with a rotozip and installed flushmounts that are a couple inches deeper. Even was able to still use the cap. The straight ones fit in the side recesses and puts something closer to grab.

So, technically, you own a Hobie (or 4). I like you, but I'm not sure I can agree with your pedal lifestyle. I heard you have to be either gay, or married, or Billy to own a Hobie. Is this true?:biggrinjester:

that is the first thing I have done to all my boats...
cut out molded holders and install the deeper ones...
also add two more so I have 4 behind and 2 up front...
the stock ones are only about 5 or so inches deep...
definitley not deep enough!
the added ones are about 9" deep....

As for their flush mounts I hope they are not happy with them! We lost 3 fishing rods during the years Shiloh was fishing off the Hobie. Very shallow. 1 time was my fault, bumped into her hitting the rod out of the rod holder. 2nd one was taken out by a fish on a partially rough day, the last we have no idea what happened, it was just gone.

Never had a problem on any of the other yaks. The Hobie ones are definitly shallow. Great idea installing new ones :)

Maybe a leash would have helped.

I have a Revo and have always found the rod holders on this kayak to be just about useless for holding a rod. To solve the problem I designed a trolling rig out of ABS that fits into these holes This rig works pretty well. My biggest problem with the hobie molded in rod holders is where they are positioned. If they are going to mold in rod holders, they should place them up front where you can see the rods.

That is a clean install job Andy. In response to your original question, I haven't really ever noticed that they are too shallow. But maybe now that you pointed it out to me, it might bug the crap out of me. But, most of the time I do use them with the Hobie Rod extension inserts, just to keep the reel a little higher off the water, because the area where my rod holders are rides a little low in the water. So, now my question to any revo/outback guys is, are the rod holder depths different on different models? I've heard people complain about this lots, but it never has been an issue for me. I have an adventure, and my rod holder depth is 8". Lets just get the innuendo out on the the table now. How deep is your rod holder :D

My RAM rod holders are a manly 10 inches. Unfortunately, my rods aren't.:o

Just checked and the Outback and Outfitter have the 6 inch, Revo and Sport had 8"
