We launched a little later then we would have liked. No boat lights to be seen on the water. I'm not going to lie, I get a little excited when the squid boats show up. Not to many other yakers out. Scallywags yak is faster then mine and he had scoped the fish grounds out and found the fish. I had passed him up in the dark and was following the kelp line. Then I called out on the vhf to see if this little back dot I was paddling to was my friend. He replyed no thats not me but, White dog you better get over here!:you_rock::cheers1: . I had though he was this dark spot on the water. Not seeing any bait marks and no sabiki rigged I just went straight toward the spot next to my fishing buddy who was making some good bait. Started dropping the iron:jig: . About 15 drops later I hooked it on the drop, a tug, shake and a pull. Caught on a rod I snagged of the bottom a year ago! After a scare with a dog and some help from a friend I was able to land the fish of a life time 60#.5oz WSB! Accoring to the Dana landing Mission Bay digital scale.

A thanks to all who are taking their time to make sure we have a place to fish:you_rock:http://yahoo.com/

Congratulations on the Big WSB.

This quality of fish absolutely requires you to show up at the DFG Commission Meeting and Help Us !

Its not guilt, its a plea for help!

Big time congrats, bro! :cheers1:

I heard that's your cherry popper? If that is your first legal WSB, wow! I can imagine what kind of heart rate you had at deep color, pumpin' to say the least. And I'm sure that fish looked 80 lbs below the kayak before you sank the gaff .

I guess I will have to start launching before 10 a.m. now. The Yellowtail have been fun lately, but I might just give them a rest.

I saw you at the launch, bright and
early in the morning. Only you were
already coming in. Then my eyes set
on YOUR monster fish in your yak.

I've been rev'd up ever since!

Sorry i moved this quote from yani's hali video thread so i wouldn't be jack'in...

I'd like to make a suggestion for the next video: sticking your hand in the gills of a pissed off, still green 50 lb WSB.

I saw whitedog land this #60 without a gaff...although it was not really green...after a gut check and a few double takes while I'm yelling at him to get that fish on his boat before the dog gets it, he grabber her by the gill plate and iron and slid her onto his lap then put her in a figure4 while he tried to pop some gills....I'm not saying that its the best way but i like landing all my fish without a gaff (except halibut) and i've lost my fair share of fish boatside because of it....kinda levels the playing field and you still have the option to release the fish even after you have it on you're lap!

that fish is still UNBELIEVABLE to me....i've spend hours looking at that pic in dis-belief!! not to mention all the sleep i loose getting up early to go find my own.

Definetely levels the playing field, especially with Halibut :p.

That said, yes, if you know exactly where to put your fingers...with a tired out, belly up WSB...no problem! Then again, if you don't know "exactly" where to put those fingers, while maybe stoked out of your mind...it's going to be a blood bath! And I don't mean the fish, either .

Anyone who knows, knows! For those of you that don't, the gill rakers on a WSB are like razor blades. Might as well throw your hands into a jet engine .

Yup. After my first, my hand looked like this when I got off the water. I didn't think anything of it. Two days later it lloked like I had put my hand into a paper shredder.

Thanks whitedog, Thanks for the offer for help on thursday. I guess i will never know what big animal i had that bent my quality seeker heavy duty pole like a horse shoe. I almost had him but his last dash popped my line :linesnap:Man, that was a big fish! BUMMER.

But later, after everyone left.... retribution! I hooked and paddled home with close to 50LB WSB! I felt much better.
