View Full Version : Installing a Lowrance GPS antenna

Hi folks. I just picked up a Lowrance GPS/FF combo to replace my Eagle 350.
One thing I over looked was the installation (or perhaps I should say the "placement") of the GPS antenna.

I've got a Hobie Revo and cannot find a flat surface, parallel to the water, where I could install this. My preference is to keep the antenna in front rather than in back of me.
Is keeping the receiver parallel to the water critical or can I get away with installation on an angled surface such as the front hatch?
Anybody have another option to fix it this issue?
Thanks in advance

pretty much all the new ones come with an internal antenna, and you can still add the external antenna. If yours has the internal antenna, I would just go with that.

I'm curious as to why you are replacing the cuda 350. Kinda had my eye on that one when I pull the trigger.

Maybe because this is higher end than a typical Humminbird or Eagle 350 or so but there is no internal antenna, hence the GPS receiver.

The resolution of the Lowrance is much better. Nothing wrong with the Eagle, but I got a rocking deal on the Lowrance (too good to pass up) and since it was water proof, I pulled the trigger.
If all else fails, I can put it on my 2101 Striper or my skiff, but I was really hoping to put this on the kayak.

Make a stand with pvc and cutting board. Place it where I have my FF head unit, in the sail mast. That's where I would put it, if I bought that FF.

Yeah I'd go off the sail mast somehow. You can do a Ram wedge mount for the head unit, and I bet you could even make a bracket off of that to mount the antenna directly above or to the side of the head unit.

Actually I was referring to Lowrance specifically. It sounds like you got one of their closeouts, i.e., prior to making them all with internal antennas. Ram Mount the unit with the antenna right behind it. nice thing about Ram Mounts is that they are easily removable; thus you can stow it.
