Sorry guys, I know this question has been asked 100 times (and I have gone through those threads). But I need to get a little more specific..

I've had my Eagle Cuda 300 for about a year. Aside from glitches (screen goes completely dark- anyone experience this?), I'm at the point where the performance of this unit isn't cutting it. Resolution, tuneability etc.. It's time for an upgrade. In a perfect world I would hop on the Lowrance HDS bandwagon.. but thats just not feasible right now. SO.. what would be a midrange unit that's going to offer better performance and higher resolution than my cuda 300, but not break the bank? I ask because it seems like a lot of step ups from the 300 are more $$ for features that are not necessarily performance upgrades.

Thanks in advance..

I recently upgraded my eagle 300 to a Humminbird 385, was worth every penny! Has much more definition and is pretty user friendly. I went with the drill a hole in the bottom of the yak transducer. I havn't sunk at sea yet!

Hey Rob, I have what would be considered a mid-range unit, the Lowrance X96. It definitely has better resolution and a larger screen but it won't show marks that your cuda 300 can't find. My opinion is to either stick with what you have or go big = HDS 5 or similar.
