View Full Version : Footwear for Pedaling a Hobie?
Just got an Adventure. Stoked!
What kind of footwear are people using when pedaling? I have waders with Neoprene booties. Oversize sneakers? Just put the booties in the pedals? I'll be on the water Thursday.
Thanks, Tom

Most people remove the strap from the pedals. Some sort of water shoe over the booty should be sufficient.
For the summer go barefoot, Hobie sells pads for the pedals for added comfort.

If I wear waders - which is almost all the time, I wear a thin 2mm oversized dive boot over the stocking foot waders so I can walk on pavement and not trash the wader foot. It works great and is not too hot in the summer, or cold in the winter.
In the summer if I wear shorts and not waders, I will wear a pair of Coral King dive boots. They are desiged to walk on rocky bottom so you won't tear them up walking to the car, etc.

I use a pair of Kean sandals that I picked up at the REI garage sale for about $10. These are really well made water shoes. I got one size larger than I would normally wear to over over my waders.

My water shoes are two times larger than normal. I guess it depends on the waders.

CVS/Longs el cheapo aqua shoes. No complaints. Had everything I was looking for in a water shoe: lightweight, soft rubber sole, drawstring around ankle/heel, removable insole, neoprene/mesh uppers, and CHEAP. I think they retailed for about $8-9; got them during end-of-summer sale for $5. Picked up 2 at that price! I wear a 10 and bought the XL (11-12). fits great over waders.
I have Tevo and Keen sandals, but for me, they're too heavy to wear on the kayak. I get enough exercise that I don't think I need to wear leg weights!
