Anyone out there have an 08 (Twist type) mirage drive for a Revolution? I have a chance to buy the kayak but no drive. Let me know please. Thanks, Matt

If I'm not mistaken the drives are interchangeable. The only difference is the locking mechanism on the hull.

So ANY drive will work, the only difference is the lock? Does the locking mechanism come with the drive assembly? Thanks for any info on this. Matt

The locking mechanism comes with/attached to the kayak.

Any drive will work, but the new ones designed for the click and go system will not work with the old twist cams unless modified. Change out the metal pin that goes through the mirage drive, (the pin that rests in the molded grooves of the kayak). Its a very simple fix, just buy the pin you need from Fastlane and used a rubber mallet to push out the old pin, insert the new one, and pound it through with the hammer until it sticks out evenly on either side of the drive.

Keep an eye on Craig's list. Every once in a while one shows up. These are probably ones recovered by divers in LJ who have run across drives lost overboard. I am sure you can also order a new one from a Hobie dealer.

Thanks guys, there are a few Hobies for as little as 650 - 750 bucks out there, without a drive. Wanted to see what the "package" would set me back. I think that I may just go with the "old" arm powered kayak.

theres a revo on craigslist for $1150 , also a one for $750 with no drive and if you go back couple days 2 drives were available, looked like older ones for $270 each, so for 1100 you could get a good yak reasonably . look through graigslist!!!!

Thanks for the links but beware. That first one is no Revolution. It's the Hobie Classic and it's not for fishing. Not sure but I think they are worth far less than $1150

No such thing as a Revo Classic......Only the old Hobie Mirage which is now the Mirage Classic. You dont want it......Get the Revolution

sorry you are correct! hobie mirage classic
If you can find a Revolution cheap without the drive get it. It paddles pretty well without the drive and you should be able to find a drive cheap later....
Or from what I hear you can get a swim mask and find them all over the sea floor off La Jolla Shores :biggrinjester:

Possible o8 revo plus about 250 for a drive. 850 - 900 total, sounds like a good deal , right? Anything I need to look for as far as the condition of the boat or drives? I read about the possible cracking in the area of the drive receiver, will look for that. Any other help from all you experienced guys would be appreciated. Thanks, Matt

2008 prone to crack at cams...buyer beware.
Check next to the cam lock knobs. Ive seen tiny cracks in pre 08's twice.....
Also check with Nate or Drew at OEX Oceanside......They've seen it all in regards to Hobies.....
If you can get a Revo with drive, seat, paddle in good condition for 8-900 thats a steal......

On any Hobie Adventure or Outback made up to the year 2006 you must check the Drive Well area for any cracks.
Read my post with Pics of where to look, and which serial #'s were affected.
