My brother hasn't fished LJ since September and I gave him 3 used Saltist reels to better his chances as I just purchased new ones. The reels were rebuilt and 2 were loaded with Power Pro / Spectra combo and the 3rd with fresh 40lb P-line (green).
All I can say is Todd launched at 5:30 am and was on beach by 9:00 am with close to 100lbs of fish. 50-55lb WSB and a 40LB plus Yellow.
All on flylined greenbacks and a #2 Gamo. Both fish were caught on the 40lb rig. Not bad for the first trip of the year...
I am so f'n jealous - pictures to follow latter.

That's a super big Kayak he has. or is that a La Jolla xxx special ice chest behind his truck.

LMAO......its almost a kayak. That garbage can bait tank might make a yak a bit top heavy. Great fish nonetheless.

We did the kayak thing for two years but decided we needed both our arms pulling on fish like this so we opted for a 10' plastic tub with a 4-stroke 4hp. Still has a paddle so you can be silent when in the zone.

My brother likes to pin it (I treid it once & thought it unsafe) panga style while I tend to jump off in waist deep water and push it in.
I did take a wave the very first voyage 3 years ago like a vert ramp and launched straight up only to have the back half take on water - no issue, foam injected. Went to shore bailed out and went right back out.

Amazing.
I fished a boat like that with my buddy, it works pretty well, and we feared for our lives more than once.
It's for sale if anyone else wants to.
Nice fish man. Your brother had a good day!
