Sorry I've been laying pretty low because of a busy schedule after the Moyer Tourny. I would just like to thank everyone who found the time and money to donate too such a worthy cause. We raised over $12,000 this year which crushes last year. We of course are donating some of that money to our Brother Joel "Mooch" who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. How would all of you feel if we donated a $1k to my friend Tim Gutman who is a long friend of mine and the Chef at the Poisiden in Del Mar? Tim was recently Diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma. He also has been battling Chrones Disease since he was 18 years old. Tim has been a long time supporter of this tournament and has donated numerous items. I didn't want to give money out of turn without asking the people who supported this cause. I will wait for your replys. If you feel that this is not right, PM me and I will understand. Thank you.

Shiloh and I did not fish the tournament because we were out at Catalina for a long weekend for her birthday, pretty slow fishing. Anyway we did sign up and pay 2 registration fees to help support this worthy cause and you have our blessing to spread the help wherever you feel best. All our lives have been touched by cancer and you are a good man helping those in our community. Sounds like Tim can use a helping hand.

Bought 3 shirts, could not make the day. I have no problem with you & Jim managing the $$ as you see fit. If I did not trust you I would not have sent the $

I grew up near there and have had many a breakfast at the Poisiden. Regardless, I am all for helping those out who need a hand.

The focus of this tourney is charitable giving. So, charitably give. You guys are best equipped to determine who is in need and how to help. I admire the dedication and effort you all put forth every year to make this happen
Chris
don't even hesitate to help him out.

Personally, I think the money is put to a much better use if it is donated to someone you or others in our group know to have a need. If your friend Tim is one of those people, by all means go for it. If 1K is not enough, give him more.
The cancer society is a great cause but giving directly to needy individuals will likely do more immediate good.
Just my opinion.

I'm new here, haven't even got the yak wet yet, and all I did was buy a shirt, so I don't want to speak out of turn, but I just wanted to second this. I think giving directly to the people in need is the best kind of giving. I'm sure the ACS is a great organization, but they don't know these people like you do and they do have overhead to worry about. So I say go for it.
Edit: OK I guess I'm "thirding" it! dsafety beat me to the seconding.

I can't think of a nicer thing to do than put some cold hard cash in the hands of a needy friend.

Matt,
I am another one that registered and paid but was unable to actually attend the event. I agree, however, with dsafety's post above.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Because we advertise the tournament as a for ACS event we are obligated to give to them, but we do have some flexibility. The main thing is we want things like this to be above board and very transparent so the people that have donated to the cause know exactly where the money goes.
Thanks again to everyone that participated and donated to our event. As Matt said we are a bit over 12 K right now so we will be able to give nice donations to the ACS, Joel and to Matts friend. It really makes me proud to be a part of this community.
I agree with dsafety, and understanding that the event is advertised as a for ACS event, would it be possible to maybe earmark some of the funds, say a percentage of money raised each tournament, with the knowledge that it be used as needs arise?
Just a thought...either way, all for it, the Moyer/Sammons families put in alot of hard work, for a good cause, it is a great gesture...:notworthy:

Well that is pretty much what we did this year, we had the tournament set from the beginning to donate to the ACS and to Joel. This was brought up for a third donation recipient.
Anyway all the checks have been sent out or in the case of the ACS hand delivered. Thanks again everyone for the feedback and support. Now this is all done I get to jump on a plane to go Salmon fishing for the week.
