Hi ware would be a good place to start fishing on a kayak, i am new to this,:reel:

Where are you located would be a good start , bays are always a good place to start to become familiar with your kayak and equipment before you tackle surf launchs ,and a few dry runs launching through surf without your fishing gear to become fmiliar with timing sets and paddling through waves.If you surf you should have a good sense of waiting for the lulls between sets .PFD's are a must .Good luck and happy hunting

I agree. Start with the bays and get used to what your kayak does or doesn't do. That's what I did - went to Mission Bay twice. Then went to SD bay. But there you need to keep an eye on all the boat traffic. Then I went to LJ Shores, but did a few launches without any gear.

What he said. Welcome to the sport. I'm currently doing the bay fishing thing to get comfortable with everything first. Fishing the bays is not a bad thing either, there is a lot of fun fishing in the bays.

Now that I have a Kayak I will be keeping for a long time I'll be spending a lot of time getting to know this thing. I'll be posting up invites out when I plan to head out.

Thanks I will do that, next question fishing reels, start off for calico, and then yellowtail, any suggestions

If you throw a plastic for kelp bass you could end up with a WSB ,soak a squid for a ling and get a yellow tail ,trol a mac for a YT and get a thresher ,fishing is fishing ,no one gets skunked if they're hungery ,just picky .Time on the water is your classroom , fish and learn ,Good Luck
