so the wifey asks me what I want for my birthday and without skipping a beat I say a $750 fish finder. She reply's with "then thats the only thing you're getting"
which starts me thinking do I want a HDS 5 or would I rather get a Curado 200 and an HD GoPro and windows tinted on my subaru out back. Backround info, I have a curado 300 and a chronarch 100a already, so a new bass reel isnt really that important. Although, I am starting to bass fish more and more nowadays. And my current fish finder is a Eagle Cuda 350.
so which would you want if you were in my shoes?
Package A = HDS 5
Package B = Curado 200, GoPro, and tinted windows
thanks everyone

I'd be happy just to have a wifey who doesn't go postal at the suggestion of purchasing a $750 fish finder. You are a lucky man.

my gut says curtain "A" Bob,(Barker), but package "B" is pretty good too, the way I would look at it is, would I actually go through with spending that kind of coin on a meter?, probably, if I had it to spend on an upgraded model, but package "B" has more bang for the buck...tough call specially if you don't have a camera yet...good to be in this kind of quandry though isn't it, sounds like you got a great "wifey" there.

X-2...but they (wife's) will drop $750 on a purse without blinking a phooking eye...then come up with some wako rational BS ....like - "Oh babe, 750 is a great deal on a purse".
Go with pkg A!

I say B because you already have a FF, and I'd want the camera.
X2 on the wife. Luckily mine doesn't go for expensive purses.

I say go with the HDS you already have a curado 300 which will handle any bass and even yt,wsb so i have been told. I haven't caught neither one on mine. And you can always get a camera later there not that much.

Never, never allow honesty to enter into a fishing conversation....EVER!
You need to get the FF as a SAFETY device (let her figure it out:D)
Tinted windows are to protect an investment.
Camera is for you to share your "special" moments on the water with the one you love "her".
I can't think of ANY way to justify the reel!
Great wife, great problem!

I would go with package B. You always need a camera, and that is one good camera,(looks in pocket to see if he has money or order one) to tell others what you caught or people will not believe you, and if you do get that fish finder your better buy the best warranty you can.
neither..
option #C
Mothership it!!!!!......
HDS 5x cost me $549 and I got a mail in rebate for $50. WEST marine will match any internet price.....
You now have ~$200 left to give me or to put toward this http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Shimano-Tyrnos-8-Two-speed-Fishing-Reel/5661680/product.html or your curado
I never include tax when talking to the wifey and of course always round down to the nearest $20

been contemplating tinting my windows for a while now..only thing that bothers me is it is strictly aesthetic...curado 200 is perfect for most bass applications but so it the chron100...as for the GoPro i cant tell you anything bad...i have so many cameras for cycling that i could probably buy a house with them...hds will KILL fish, and with the recent "closures" it may be a litle more difficult to find them :p

I would say the Go Pro has an attachment to the HD5 and needs to work in conjunction with each other to provide the best features availible in order to complete the task at hand and in order to protect the investment You would need to tint the window of the outback so the sun does'nt damage of the said units. Further the Curado 200 is so she can see what is caught with Go Pro HD5 attachment in its full glory......simple..

Ditch the wife and take A, B....and C. :biggrinjester:
It sounds like you already have more bass gear than you really NEED, so go with the HDS, but don't pay 750....make sure you price match and get the US base map version (about 100-200 cheaper)....I've checked out the Insight vs. US basemaps and they are virtually identical for kayak fishing except the insight has some background shadows/color and the batho-lines. Although the batho-lines don't even really cover the that area most people fish in LJ. The Insight maps have a ton more options, but they are pretty much useless on the yak.
Use the extra skrilla to get the Go-pro and....;)

The tribe has spoken. I will be asking for a new fish finder for my birthday. Now which one do I get the HDS-5 or the HDS-5x?
I wouldn't mind getting the 5 and having GPS built in....
thoughts?
StinkyMatt

They ONLY come WITH the built in GPS! Don't even say there is a non-gps option. Actually, the cheaper model and the non-gps model were both RECALLED due to fire risk!

I just have to weigh in here...
I married a bartender 12 years ago, she is now a very successful litigation attorney who entirely supports my fishing habit with gusto. I went to Cabo 3 times this last year, PV once, and I fish locally from three different platforms, Hobie kayak, 23' Parker sport Cabin, and an 18' Parker CC. My collection of avets and black steels are nothing to complain about... I tell you all this to lay the ground work for explaining my answer to you...
1) Bellcon was right, NEVER, NEVER let on how expensive your sport really is...
2) The proper approach must be taken when "handling" Wives...
Take your B-day money and secretly buy your wife a full day at an expensive luxury spa, followed by a romantic evening with diner at her favorite high end eatery (not the Olive Garden guys). While she is at the spa run up to the flower wholesalers in Carlsbad and bribe the guy at the cashier, and you can get an entire bucket of long stemmed red roses for like $30. Deliver 12 to her workplace the next day and take the rest and put them on her car, in her car, in the entryway of the home, up the stairs, in the bathtub, on the bed, you get the idea! Make everything you do for 48 hours about her. Then over Coffee, ask her about a new FF, HD GO Pro, or a 23' Parker Sport Cabin...;)
3) OPTIONAL- Take the money you save on roses, run down to see Joey at Squidco and get that reel!
You will score all the things on your list, and more, and for penny's on the dollar return! And there are usually some nice fringe benefits as well!:sifone:
