Hi - I'm new here - I live in the UK and love looking at other kayak fishing sites around the world. Hoping to learn alot and perhaps swap a few ideas from across the pond.
In the UK, we have a fish called a conger eel. They are really tough and can swim backwards which usually means a really good scrap. They can grow to 100 lbs+, but generally they are alot smaller.
In the autumn I had a really good session for them in the fast flowing muddy waters of the Bristol Channel.
I thought you might like to see the video (apologies - I don't know how to embed a Youtube video)...

Enjoy !

Nice post, thanks Dizzy.
Can you eat them suckers? I know that one of the best tasting fish I ever had in my life was a smoked freshwater eel in Europe. They were much smaller than the ones you got.
You have a lot of peers that kayak fish?

Matt - You can eat conger eels, but they do not taste great. As you say, freshwater eels are nice smoked - but they don't fight as well as the congers !
There are lots of us over here that kayak fish - we ave a great laugh and a few comps. too.

Very cool video. It's hard to pin down exactly why, but eels are just a little creepy. May be it's a snake thing. In the eel world congers are actually decent looking. Our eels here in Cali are kinda nasty, morreys just get uglier and uglier every time you see one, wolf eels are just amazingly ugly, and the blood sucking lampreys they call eels in the rivers of North Cal are on the sinister side. Thanks guys - glad you liked the video - thanks for the advice on how to embed - I will do that next time.
The congers are a bit scary - they have no fear and one of my mates has a phobia with them - they are like snakes, so that's probably what it is.
The rod rests are RAM 119's - they are really verstaile because they can be moved around...

I once worked with multi-beam sonar type device - combined with a bunch of other toys we could produce psuedo 3D images of the sea floor on the fly.
