WTB: Saltwater Kelp Bass Reel/Halibut Real

I have one of these and they are very nice reels. Sure it doesn't have the big Shimano or Diawa name on it but it is very smooth, and handles well. This is what I use for this application. However I have the 4000 in the picture they are showing the 2000.

I bought a daiwa millionaire 300 classic a few years back did some work on it and it works great. pulls in bass all day and even works great on barracuda.

Personally I love Shimano. They make a great product and have amazing customer service. Curados have amazing drags and cast like a deam. I've used mine for fishing for yellows and I know a lady who landed a 30lb yellow with one, and didn't need to replace the drags. I know I treat my gear like crap and the Shimanos hold up. If you get a 300 series you'll have a reel versatile enough for 6lb or even 20lb if you back with spectra.

see, this is why I'm a Puget sound canoe angler, instead of an SoCal kayak angler.
when I think Halibut I think back to my youth & pulling up big Halibut & Ling with a Penn 309, I would never have thought to target a anything bigger than a salmon with a baitcaster.
guess I still have more to learn before I get my kayak, but I still don't think I'll ever be a Californian again.

Sixgun, you guys have Pacific Halibut right? Our California variety doesn't get nearly so big. 30-40lb is a big one down here.

You definitely cant go wrong with the shimano name...great customer service and great product. Had 2 corsairs, 2 corvalus, a TLD star 20/40, and a Torium 16 since i started buying my own stuff 10 years ago. Still have the 2 corvalus, one of which was a free replacement upgrade from a corsair i had had for about 8 years. Also still have the TLD and i just purchased the Torium a couple months back off of craigslist. Really like the Corvalus for fishing the kelp for bass with flylined baits or throwing plastics. With a good rod very easy to cast even witha small chovie. Not much experience with halibut unfortunately though. Cant say i havent tried:doh:
