I use Wavewatch (http://www.surfermag.com/surf-reports-and-forecasts/forecasts/?RegionID=8|rt=S.%20CA%20(San%20Diego)) and Wetsand (http://forecasts.swellwatch.com/). The trick is to learn what swell directions hit the Shores the hardest. Look at the swell direction in degrees, go fish and remember how the launch was. Eventually you'll know what the launch will be like no matter what the source of the forecast.

For what it's worth I say SURFLINE. I use it for Kayak, surfing, and wind sometimes for windsurfing.

This is what i started using while i was living in Monterey the last few years. Found it to be pretty damn accurate and it gives you everything from swell size, periods, wind speed direction, tides, temps etc. also for breaks all up and down the california coast. Havent used it much down here yet though.

always used to use surfline when i surfed before moving up north.
