I'm intrested. I wanted to get on a trip last year but never did. This is a long way out and I don't know what the future holds but I would like to go

FlyFishinYakr 03-06-2015 05:16 PM

Thanks Bob and Brandon.:notworthy:
I have 4-5 of each of the Rapalas & in different colors, they're part of my LR multi-day trip kits. I'll have to check into large Crocs.
I assume the same wire for Wahoo [single strand (48#+) and multi-strand] will work for these trips?
FFY :sifone:

Officially you are on the list. read all posts on this thread and then ask your questions. If I do not respond within a couple days, Relax as I am leaving for there in about an hour.

Apparently you forgot about me.

makobob 03-06-2015 05:44 PM

Are YOU sure you were forgotten or maybe this old man hit the wrong button?
Or? NOW you are on the list.

Any of the guys who are going, or wanting to, an easy tool is to subscribe to this thread via email. If anytime someone posts to the thread, you will get an instant email. Any of you first timers to Baja kayak fishing and pick this trip, it will definitely keep you coming back. Makobob and robmoney have a real paradise down in gonzaga with awesome fishing and a great time. You will not be disappointed with either. I owe much gratitude to bob and rob for the constant invites down to fishing paradise. Cannot thank you both enough for the knowledge and hospitality. 🍻

1 oz or 1.5 oz crocs work fine. Other that my 49lb WSB I caught on a 2 oz croc I haven't had as much luck with the large crocs.
My best advise it to bring lot of them with a least 24" to 36" wire leaders
Those sierra were a blast but they took a lot of my silver/chrome

My experience is the fish bite on anything and everything in Baja.

If you have a set up that you're really comfortable throwing jigs and own several jigs, bring that, you'll do well.

If on other hand you use swimmers like rapala, waxwings etc, bring that set up and use it. You'll have a 100 fish day.

If the fly is what you excel with, you can't lose.

What I'm trying to say is, "fish the same way, same rig, same technique, and same lures that works best for you here, and you have unbelievable days there".

Last year I made five lures from metal crate straps, and lost all but one to fish. They were crummy workmanship and looked awful. Just get your favorite type of lure in the water and hold on to your rod.

Do it your way and you'll have excellent days with sore arms. Then you'll have plenty of time to rest your arms from all that pulling while learning a new technique from others down there with you.

Go to google maps and type in Gonzaga Bay, Baja in the search bar.
Bobs place is approx 10 miles north of the bay just north of bufeo, on the Sea of Cortez side

Gonna have to take my name off the list for this one, something has been presented to me that i need to save for. Perhaps next year.

The entire trip will cost you 200 or less if you share gas costs and it will be fishing that you can not come close to anywhere in San Diego.

The last trip in October last year was a once in a lifetime trip for those lucky to go last year.

Just ask them how good it was and you probably will not believe it.

I get that, the thing is im a full time college student with no job, i work over summers and that lasts me. What i need to save up for instead happens this summer and idk how much it will cost yet. If i have enough for both, great, if not then i dont want to hold a spot that someone else could have.
