The end results for punching the toothy critter! Right as my fist got close, he opened up wide....

Damn dude I would say you went toe to toe with a 20+ Lb halibut but it was more like tooth to fist! Again, I give you props for trying your all. And the Black Sea bass in SDB? That's got to be unheard of. Successful day you had, whether the halibut bit you and took off with your gaff or not!

Dude, the tidelands is going to be swamped with boats and yaks this week.

i have been to Tidleands somewhere approaching 100 outings, in past 10 yrs.

and i have been lucky enough to have a few 60+ spottie days there at Tidelands.

and i've also been to Shelter island area, over 100+ outings.

BUT I HAVE NEVER MYSLEF, (nor even seen anyone else), catch 17 Halis in one day, in SDB.

you were flat out killing it ALL that day for sure. :you_rock:

i have never b4 heard of anyone catching a BSB in the Bay, in past 10 yrs of yakking, and 10 yrs of skiffs b4 that.

is your rig above, what they call either an Umbrella Rig, or an Alabama rig ???


i typically fish SDB with one plastic (swim baits or curly tail grubs) on lead-head.
or other times with one spinnerbait rig, at 1 oz, with dual blades.

i'm very curious exactly what you mean, when you say "blades", in your report....

are you referring to a typical spinnerbait, or something else ???

could you please explain more, on your overall rig used, or perhaps even post it in a pic.
