VHF was pretty much worthless. Couldn't hail boats which were only a couple miles away.
Were you on 72? This is the biggest problem IMO. You have a big safety issue if you're out of communication.

Man really would be great to plan a large group trip, added support and larger spread on the fish better odds

Yup I tried all the recreational channels 72, 69, 65. Didn't want to blast a radio check on 16 though...

Having a large group could go both ways... If you are trying to stay together, then you are only as fast as your slowest person. I think 2 or 4 people is optimal so you could work in 2 man teams. I definitely wouldn't want to be out there with some new guy who I didn't know. I'd feel kinda bad if I had to tell them to man the F up and keep paddling.

Sounds logical.. Diffidently every chain has a weak Link. I hear u on going offshore with someone your not familiar with, hate hearing people complain when they have less drive and well power to continue the mission. Usually see those guys coming a mile away, as they pass to close asking for the dame fish report and snag both lines, Oooo didn't know u had those lines out sorry!!!:paddleersmilie:
