How to you get to the port where the islander is at?

JarrodMc 06-09-2013 08:09 PM

Fishermans Landing off of Scott St. in Point Loma.

Unless you live across the street you drive there.

A lot of the issue is that PA's take of a ton of space and dont fit in the racks. When you put those kayaks on the deck it makes it that much harder to walk around the boat and creates unsafe conditions for passengers and crew. Especially if there are a whole bunch of PA's. Even on trips where there are just 1 or 2 it really crowds up the deck which is already a problem on these trips due to the amount of gear that folks bring.

The weight of the PA is only a small part of the reasoning, there are plenty of guys that load up their Malibus and make them just as heavy as a PA.

All 5 trips we are running in 2013 filled up no problem without people being allowed to bring PA's. Obviously this change didnt hurt peoples decision to go and most everybody has been very understanding and have made other arrangements so that they could still attend.

Frank, leave the bbq grill, table saw, the welder, 84" big screen and the partridge in a pear tree at home.

:luxhello:can't wait!!

Any advice for a newbie? How's the weather going to be? I've seen video and seems like people wear breathable waders or long pants? Is it going to be that cold? I was hoping to get by with swim trunks or board shorts. What kind of bait will be provided? Anchovies? Sardines? Mix? Also, any strategy or rigging tips would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like the Navy is going to be having some MAJOR closures all the way until winter, with Pyramid Cove constantly closed. Fish dope is saying they are kicking everyone out every morning at 5am.

*Edit at closer inspection..the areas outlined in black have specific daily hours of operations. Weekends are generally not as bad.

I usually wear waders in the morning and change to my convertible pants after lunch if the sun is shining

duh!!.. why didn't that occur to me?
I guess we lunch back on the boat? Jor, Are you going on this trip?

Little concerned about possible big swells and wind, mainly because of my son.. but I think he'll be ok. We've handled some big water at Newport before... but he's never been on a 2.5 day boat trip. Time for him to man up!

I'm getting so excited about this trip, having trouble sleeping already! :luxhello: :reeling:

Yes, I'll be there.

Keep in mind that the mother ship has a skiff that runs around all day supporting your needs and there are also plenty of kayakers around to help if needed. Worse case you can have him fish near or around the mother ship while you venture out a little further. Everyone looks out for each other on these trips so you're guaranteed that someone will be there to help at a moments notice.

the OC :auto: Fisherman's Landing!

OEX 06-20-2013 06:28 AM

For tonight's trip be down at Fishermans Landing at 6pm

<table align="center" bgcolor="white"><tbody><tr><td align="center" valign="top">Fisherman's Landing </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" valign="top"> 2838 Garrison Street </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" valign="top"> San Diego, CA 92106 </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" valign="top">
</td></tr></tbody></table>Just head down Rosecrans and turn left on Garrison and that runs right into Fisherman's Landing.

There is a paid ACE parking lot there at FL and you get 1/2hr free to unload and then if you want you can find free off street parking if you want- Parking Rates change daily so check the signs on the booth as you pull in.

Anyone missing a fish from this last trip ? Halibut with the tag ripped off was left at the dock. Waiting on ice.
Also, seat, gaff, 3 rods(maybe from previous trip) and misc. little things.
Good times, great group...see you next time around....."Diver Pete"
