What really grinds my gears

Feel free to post what grinds your gears.

I'll start.

When your fishing...actively casting especially and another yak literally paddles/peddles directly in between you and where you just cast and drags a bait over your line. :the_finger:

YakDout 03-22-2014 07:53 PM

Big yellowtail, those things REALLY grind my gears.

WildernessWanker 03-22-2014 08:17 PM

PB's operated by idiots! I'm smaller and quieter then you are, don't come right up on me with your motor idling at half WOT and start talking to me about the noise benefits of being on a kayak while I'm soaking live bait.

Always expect the unexpected

dorado50 03-22-2014 09:33 PM

pb'ers that fish the same areas as I do.....they think they own the whole ocean!

MrPatrick 03-22-2014 09:43 PM

People that chastise me for being an angler when I land. "Did you have fun killing fish today"?
Me, "Have you eaten fish in the last year?"
Smarmy lady, "Yes"
Me, "What kinds?"
Lady, "Halibut, Mahi, Tuna and Monkfish."
Me, "That Monkfish was caught using a bottom trawler. They literally scape the seafloor clean a mile at a time. They keep the desirable fish and throw the rest overboard. Your one piece of Monkfish killed more animals than I ever will in a lifetime of kayak fishing. Did you have fun killing those animals?"

I was at Lj couple weeks back

And I saw a power boat going wide open , est 25 - 30 mph , looked like 40 mph pulling a ski , 100 yards off shore , and 15 -20 ft away from a fishing yak . Anyone we know .? Chime in please.

FISH11 03-23-2014 11:08 AM

Summer time, bathers in the water at La Jolla where the sign says Boat Launch Area and you are coming in the surf. The dummies are standing in 2 to 3 feet of water looking out at their friends in rental kayaks. They're not paying attention to the kayaks landing and the surf sometimes takes you right at them. I've had a woman stand there while I'm yelling at her Watch out, Watch out. At the end the kayak hit her (lucky for her no too hard), but I wanted to say to to her "What the F*** where you thinking!)

Big T 03-23-2014 01:24 PM

Shifting without the clutch with bad syncros.

GregAndrew 03-23-2014 04:54 PM

When the tourists ask "Did you catch that here?" right after you land. I have started telling them that it is my bait that I brought with me.

momo fish 03-23-2014 05:04 PM

Private boaters who pull up near you and cause waves while your hooked up and almost causing you to lose balance !

Poachers.

Almost every time I fish DP I see at least one. It's the lady that "stretched" her halibut, or the guy that has a 12" sandbass on his clip, or the oriental guy that tosses everything he catches in his bucket no matter the size.

Hey now, not all orientals are poachers! That's stereotyping! That's like me saying the last time I was fishing out of Ventura harbor I watched a group of Mexicans fishing the wall, they put every single fish they caught into a bucket regardless of species or size......wait a minute, that's actually what happened. Continue with the racial profiling....

Oriental is a term that I hope died out in the 60s.

Asian is the preferred moniker now.

I actually take offense to both those terms and prefer panda or slanted eyes.

1. Not getting on the water enough.

2. Everytime I stand up in the PA and cast, a PB comes charging full blast at me. If there was a YT around, it gone now.

3. Running out of beer.

ful-rac 03-24-2014 07:22 AM

Those Silly oriental-Asian gooksters...when will they ever learn?

What really grinds my gears

One more. Certain asian member of sewer team (not naming names) that come across as standoffish to new kayakers and don't respond to emails. Thanks for explaining human behavior to me Jorge and nice meeting you. 😳

Please refrain from using the word 'oriental'. It is bad enough that so many here can't even spell common words but to have racial slurs just being tossed around like chum is kind of sickening to me.

I know that there are some educated people here but will the ones that don't have any please be quiet.

Anyone that thinks this is funny is a) not a minority b) has no clue c) has no class d) no cultural significance e) all of the above

I thought that people in general have evolved when in comes to racial sensitivity and have become more sophisticated, and intelligent but I guess I am mistaken.

No worries man. But I promise I don't bite. No grudge held:cheers1:

And let's keep this clean so the thread doesn't get locked. No racial comments.

1. Snagging a hoop net
2. Needing to poop 5 mins after launch.
3. Putting on sunscreen at the launch, putting my $400 watch on my fender flair on the jeep and parking, launching and making it to the boundary buoy before I check the time. Then paddling back in and finding it right where I left it. Damn that could have been bad.
4. Running out of beer.
5. Running out of bait.
6. traveling to AZ until Friday and missing opening day of the Fred hall show

Buddha,
I've learned you can't reason with folks like these. When you complain, it just adds fuel to the fire. Most likely these folks are uneducated working class.

Nevermind when a guy named "Ruiz" in his handle is making racial jokes. Nevermind that someone almost pissed in their pants when reading the words "panda" and "slanted eyes". Nevermind all that silliness and don't take the "bait" next time.

While these guys are laughing and teaching their kids to laugh and poke fun at folks who are different; Asians, orientals, slanted eyes, or whatever you want to call them are taking over the upper middle class jobs. Take a look at the demographic data for the UC system. UC Irvine is 60% Asian and others are well over 50%. Education is power, being racist shows weakness.

Think about it over a bowl of rice and dog meat...haha.

I was referring to three specific individuals I met this past month while fishing at DP. I didn't mean it to sound as a stereotype.

I liked everything you said except for the last line.

I have a doctorate degree but I don't flaunt it. I just find it incredibly sad that as a child of the 60s where we lived through civil rights, war, racial equality, as well as women's liberation that ignorance can and will set the human race backward.

You are right education is power.

Sorry but I think I was right on amigo.

Ignorance hurts doesn't it?

You never even had the guts or class to apologize for yourself.

No class at all.
